About the event

Dr. Lauren Westbrook is a passionate healthcare provider with 18 years of experience providing patient care in emergency and surgical/trauma critical care settings as an emergency medical technician, clinical technician, registered nurse, and nurse practitioner. She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2020, is board certified as both an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and as an Acute Care Clinical Nurse Specialist (Adult/Gerontology). She has always been a passionate learner and teacher, and in addition to being certified as a CCRN® and TCRN®, she co-created a two day preparatory review course to help nurses prepare for the Trauma Certified Registered Nurse specialty certification. Unique healthcare delivery environments and volunteerism have always been of vital interest to Dr. Westbrook. She has had the privilege of working in Alaska with the Alaska native population, being a camp nurse for many summers, and volunteering as part of a disaster relief initiative in Haiti and as an educator in a remote hospital in Cambodia. Dr. Westbrook currently works for the University of Maryland healthcare system as a nurse practitioner in palliative medicine, fulfilling a dream of hers to be able to support seriously ill patients and their families as they navigate an increasingly complex and dynamic healthcare environment. When she’s not in a patient’s room, you might be able to find Dr. Westbrook reading outside, crocheting, at her pottery studio, or trying new recipes for friends and family.
